Sabato Visconti is a Brazilian multimedia artist whose work finds itself in the path between emerging media environments, internet culture, and digital production. He distorts landscapes by using different forms of media which in turn allows him to create unique and surreal pieces of work, which are vibrant and colourful which reminds people of a glitching TV screen.

This image by Visconti is one of my favourites as I like that he has taken something mundane but beautiful like the beach and distorted it in a way to create a glitch landscape image. The fact that he has taken an everyday thing and completely changed it, but still making it obvious that the image is of a beach shows how he uses different forms of media to create something unique and surreal. I also like the colours in this image as the turquoise and white sandy colours compliment each other well. It looks as though the sky has been painted in an abstract way and it blends in with the sea which is effective as well as the geometric shape invading the sand. This enhances the glitch art abstract effect which merges the real world with something distorted. I would like to try this style of glitch art as I think that it would benefit me in terms of my distortion unit. I picked glitch art as I feel that it would capture distortion well and I would like to try different forms of glitch as I could merge different styles and create something different, the same way that Visconti has by using mundane landscapes which everyone sees everyday and creating something strange.

This is another one of my favourite pieces by Visconti as there is no evident landscape in the image that has been distorted using glitch art. This makes this image different to most of his others as even if he has used a landscape image as a base, he has distorted it so much that it is unrecognisable. This is more of an abstract form of glitch which is more similar to the first photo that I liked the most, however it is very different to many of his others where he just seems to have distorted one part of the image so it was still obvious to the audience what the image was. I like the use of geometric shapes being layered over eachother and the bright colours being broken up by the cool tones. This image looks like a glitching TV screen with the bright colours which I really like as it is very surreal and not something that you see everyday. However, in my own final pieces I will only edit part of the image to make it look glitchy as I want a balance between natural and surreal.

Robert Schlaug is a photgrapher who captures images and edits them to look as though a computer is glitching and the screen freezes which makes the image appear to be distorted, as if time has stopped but the landscape has carried on going until the screen has melted. Robert Schlaug captures the images in this series which portrays the limit of human experiences via everyday landscape photographs.

I like this photograph because the colours help the artist achieve the glitch effect. By using an image with bright colours to edit, he was able to produce successful glitch art which reminds me of when a computer screen snags. This is something I want to incorporate in my own final pieces as I like how the artist has managed to distort a natural landscape which symbolises the contrast between the real world and technology. It's almost as though the landscape has melted whilst in the middle of the image time has stopped. This is a very effective way to distort an image and turn it into something that we don't see everyday. I also like how there are different streaks of colours where the image has been 'glitched' which makes the images more crisp rather than just a blur.

This image is another one of my favourites as it also looks like the image is melting but at the same time it looks as though the landscape is falling. This almost makes it look like a waterfall which is also effective in terms of achieving a distorted glitch effect. The images are very simple in this series as once they are edited in photoshop the main focus is on the glitch rather than the landscape itself. There are only two colours in the photograph which are green and beige/orange which are colours that you would find in a natural environment meaning that the contrast between the natural world and technology can be portrayed successfully. I really like how the images look as though time has stopped but the glitch carries on melting so this is something that I will attempt to achieve.

Next I selected the other half of the photo and kept the middle of the image normal. I stretched the outer parts of the image out to create a glitch, distorted effect.
|
After I finished the glitch art effect, I changed the brightness and contrast to enhance the lines that were produced through stretching out the image.
|
Next, I changed the curves of the image to enhance certain parts of the photograph, which allowed me to control the shadows and highlights of the landscape.

Finally, I decided to edit the hue and saturation of the image as I felt that the glitch of the image alone wasn't effective enough. By adding in colour, this allowed me to gain the TV glitch effect.
